What is the Difference in Pre-Wired Systems vs Individual Components?

Many customers ask about the differences in purchasing a pre-wired system - for example, one of Outback’s FPR panels vs purchasing the same components individually. At the end of the day, it’s basically all the same equipment and will function the same way in a solar power system.

The main benefit in choosing a pre-wired panel, like the Outback FPR products, is that most of the work is already done for you. All the individual components that make up the Outback FPR panel are already wired and connected on a backplate which means that the system becomes very much a plug and play system. Mounting the FPR system, running solar panel wires to the system, connecting the battery bank, wiring the output to a loads panel and if desired, connecting a generator or grid power to the AC input is basically all that needs to be done in order to get the system running. With that being said, the Outback FPR systems are more expensive up front, but the pre-wired systems provide additional savings when it comes to installation and configuration that offset the price.

In contrast to the pre-wired system, choosing individual components require more work by wiring all the components together, then mounting everything on a custom backplate, which results in more time and effort during the installation and configuration process. Buying the components individually is less expensive but does require more work than the FPR system. However, if you have the knowledge and the time you can realize upfront savings by going with individual components.
