]]> Several regulatory agencies may have jurisdiction over a facility, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and/or State and local regulatory authorities. It is a good idea to understand the rights and limitations of the regulatory agencies with jurisdiction and those of other agencies or groups that may inspect your facility such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) of the Department of Labor, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense, law enforcement agencies, and customers. However, for most confectionery facilities, food safety inspections are performed by FDA or a State agency acting on behalf of FDA (“FDA inspections”). This guide only addresses FDA inspections of facilities.
