Purpose-Driven Companies Demonstrating Leadership in Marketing Practices

The vast majority of chocolate and candy on store shelves today is made by companies that do not advertise on children’s programming. Our Purpose-driven leadership on this front is monitored and evaluated by programs administered by BBB National Programs.

With a specific focus on chocolate and candy companies, the Children’s Confection Advertising Initiative was launched in 2016. Under CCAI, small-to-medium confectionery companies have committed to not advertise directly to children under age 12. Five companies participate in CCAI: Brown & Haley, Impact Confections, Jelly Belly Candy Company, Just Born Quality Confections, and PIM Brands, Inc.

The CCAI participants join the eight confectionery companies that participate in the broad-based Children’s Food & Beverage Advertising Initiative which was established in 2007. American Licorice Company, Ferrara Candy Company, Ferrero USA, Ghirardelli Chocolate Company, The Hershey Company, Lindt, Mars, Inc., Mondelēz International, and Russell Stover Chocolates have committed under CFBAI to not advertise to children.

Other companies partner with the Children’s Advertising Review Unit and carefully follow their guidelines.
